In order to enhance Mayfield’s broad and diverse curriculum all pupils are able to access a comprehensive programme of educational visits. Each class will visit places in the local community that link to work completed in school, for example places of worship complement Religious Education and a visit to the shops could be planned in maths. Each Key Stage will also plan educational visits for all pupils that link to the different themes being studied throughout the school.
There are 2 residential trips each year to the Calvert Trust in the Lake District, one for Key Stage 3 and one for Key Stage 4. Pupils take part in a wide range of outdoor and adventurous activities, as well as developing independence and team-building skills, all set in the stunning lakes and mountains of the area.
Mayfield also has a strong working relationship with the Birmingham REP Theatre. Pupils have staged productions in collaboration with the REP and visit the theatre regularly. These visits have included meeting the cast of various shows, backstage tours, make-up & costume workshops and seeing current productions.
We also enjoy links with partner schools in Ghana and India through the Connecting Classrooms program. Mayfield staff have visited these schools to share our good practice with staff that work with children with special needs. Staff from our partner schools have also visited Mayfield to see first-hand the work that we do.
