National Science and Engineering week was from the 11th to the 20th March. Here at Mayfield we celebrated Science across the School on from Tuesday 15th to Friday the 18th March with 3 spectacular science filled days and a celebration assembly to round off the week.
Tuesday started with a science in the garden day for all the secondary pupils at HML. The pupils were engaged in a number of activities in the sensory garden to improve the garden environment and to encourage more wildlife to visit our garden.
On Wednesday we held an inclusive science morning at our primary site. Our local mainstream schools joined us for the morning and we engaged the pupils in a science competition in teams made up of pupils from each school. During the afternoon there was a circus of activities in the hall for classes who had not been involved in the morning to try.
Thursday’s activities were exclusively for all our PMLD pupils and their peer mentors at HML. Mayfield hall was transformed into a science exploratory centre and all of our PMLD pupils and their mentors explored a range of science investigations together.
The week ended in celebration on Friday when we held a celebration assembly in the hall. Many parents attended and were encouraged to participate in sharing the experiences of the week as the classes presented a showcase of science learning.
I would like to thank Claire for all of her hard work in coordinating this event and to all staff and families who contributed to the week, which allowed us to celebrate the excellent science skills that have been developed during the year.
